Suzanne Howland
Principal
My name is Suzanne Howland. I have been the Principal of Lehighton Area High School for the past five years. I am a proud 1991 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and I have been employed in the school district since 2000 in both teaching and administrative capacities. Previously, I proudly served as principal of both Franklin and East Penn Elementary Schools. I am honored to continue my work here in the Lehighton Area School District for the past 22 years.
My formal education includes a dual Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Family Studies and Elementary Education from Albright College, a Master of Special Education in K–12 from East Stroudsburg University, an Educational Leadership Certificate/Principal Certification from Penn State University and Superintendent Certificate from the University of Scranton.
I believe community involvement, open communication and recognition of both student/staff achievements are essential to promoting a positive educational climate. When parents, teachers and administrators work together as a team, they can realize the core goal of creating a nurturing, disciplined, and challenging educational environment. To this end, I will work diligently to promote student-centered instruction, academic excellence, and respect.
My children have attended and attend school in the Lehighton Area School District, while my husband, William, operates his dental practice in town. My family and I enjoy traveling, the eastern shore of Maryland, skiing, sporting events and spending time together. I love to follow the United States Airforce Academy, Duke mens basketball, and have been coerced into cheering for the New York Giants, visiting MetLife Stadium for many games. My favorite cities are Boston and Minneapolis.
I am so very proud of LASD students, staff, administrators and our new/updated facilities. These are all ingredients for success! Thank you for this tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to a wonderful year. Please feel free to contact me at showland@lehighton.org or 610-377-6180 with any questions and concerns.

Floyd Brown
Assistant Principal
My name is Floyd Brown, and this is my third year as the Assistant Principal at Lehighton High School. I have been employed by the Lehighton Area School District since 2002. My first two years in Lehighton were as a 4th grade learning support teacher at Franklin Elementary. Following that, I was a learning support teacher at Lehighton High School. I have also spent three years as the Assistant Supervisor of Special Services in the district, and one year as Principal at the Lehighton Middle School. Currently, I am also the head coach of the Lehighton High School wrestling team.
Education was not my initial career path. I graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science. After graduation I spent four years working as an exercise physiologist in the cardiac rehabilitation department at St. Luke’s Hospital. During that time another opportunity presented itself and I got involved in the computer field. I was accepted into the systems engineer development program at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and after completing the program, worked as a systems engineer on the Bethlehem Steel account for three years, while also spending time as a volunteer coach in the district. It was during this time that I decided to pursue my passion for teaching and coaching. I decided to return to school and completed my master’s degree in special education at East Stroudsburg University. My teaching certifications include special education grades K-12 and general science grades 7-12. Since then I have also earned my Special Education Supervisor certification and Principal certification through Edinboro University.
I am a Lehighton graduate and have resided in the district almost my entire life. I am the proud father of two daughters, who are students in the district. We are all huge Penn State fans! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, attending Penn State football games, and following high school and college wrestling. My favorite sports teams are the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, and of course, any Penn State team.
I am looking forward to an exciting and fun school year!
