A Warm Welcome from Principal Howland
My name is Suzanne Howland, and I'm thrilled to be entering my ninth year as Principal of Lehighton Area High School for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. As a proud 1991 graduate of Lehighton Area High School myself, it's an honor to continue serving this community. I've been a dedicated member of the Lehighton Area School District for 25 years, having worked in both teaching and administrative roles. Before my current position, I had the privilege of serving as principal at both Franklin and East Penn Elementary Schools.
My educational background includes a dual Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Family Studies and Elementary Education from Albright College. I also hold a Master of Special Education in K–12 from East Stroudsburg University, an Educational Leadership Certificate/Principal Certification from Penn State University, and a Superintendent Certificate from the University of Scranton.
I strongly believe that community involvement, open communication, and celebrating the achievements of both students and staff are crucial for fostering a positive educational environment. When parents, teachers, and administrators collaborate as a team, we can truly achieve our core goal: creating a nurturing, disciplined, and challenging educational experience for all students. To that end, I'm committed to promoting student-centered instruction, academic excellence, and mutual respect within our school.
Lehighton Area School District isn't just where I work; it's where my family thrives. My children have attended and graduated from our district, and my husband, William, operates his dental practice right here in town. Outside of school, my family and I enjoy traveling, skiing, attending sporting events, and simply spending quality time together. I'm a die-hard fan of Duke men's basketball and all NCAA men's and women's basketball. While I've been strong-armed into cheering for the New York Giants (and attending many games at MetLife Stadium), my true sports passion lies on the court. My favorite city is Boston, and I love going back to the city.
I'm incredibly proud of our LASD students, staff, and administrators. These are all vital ingredients for a successful school year! Thank you for this tremendous opportunity, and I eagerly anticipate a wonderful 2025-2026 school year.

Assistant Principal
My name is Floyd Brown, and I am honored to be serving in my seventh year as Assistant Principal at Lehighton Area High School. I have been a committed member of the Lehighton Area School District since 2002. My career began as a fourth-grade learning support teacher at Franklin Elementary, later transitioning to a similar role at the high school level.
Throughout my tenure, I have held various leadership positions, including three years as Assistant Supervisor of Special Services and one year as Principal of Lehighton Area Middle School. In addition to my administrative responsibilities, I am proud to be entering my seventeenth year as head coach of the Lehighton High School wrestling team.
Education was not my initial professional path. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Penn State University and began my career as an exercise physiologist in the cardiac rehabilitation department at St. Luke’s Hospital. I later transitioned into the technology sector, completing the Systems Engineer Development Program at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and working as a systems engineer on the Bethlehem Steel account. During that time, I also volunteered as a coach within the district, which reignited my passion for working with students and ultimately led me to pursue a career in education.
I returned to school to earn my master’s degree in Special Education from East Stroudsburg University. I hold teaching certifications in Special Education (K–12) and General Science (7–12), as well as certifications in Special Education Supervision and School Administration (Principal), which I obtained through Edinboro University.
As a proud Lehighton graduate and lifelong resident of the community, I am deeply invested in the success of our students and schools. My wife, Keri, and I are the proud parents of two daughters who attend Penn State University. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, attending Penn State football games, and following both high school and college wrestling. I’m an avid supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Philadelphia Phillies.
I am excited for the year ahead and look forward to continuing to support our students, staff, and community in achieving a successful and rewarding school year.
