Music

With a comprehensive range of offerings, including marching band, chorus, show choir, jazz band, and various music class, the high school music program caters to a diverse array of musical interests and abilities. The Indian Pride Band is a source of pride and tradition within the community. The band performs at football games, parades, and other school and community events throughout the year. Students may also participate in concert band, county band or perform at PMEA festivals. These festivals are elite, audition-based performing ensembles encompassing students from several different counties and regions across the state.

The high school chorus explores a wide range of musical styles, from classical and traditional choral works to contemporary, pop, and musical choral arrangements. Students are given multiple opportunities to perform, such as Homecoming, Trees for Troops, local community caroling, field trips, and winter and spring concerts. Select students may be chosen for County Chorus or PMEA District, Regional, and State Chorus.

The high school also offers a show choir which is a select group and requires an audition to be accepted. Show Choir rehearses after school and also performs in evening concerts. Students are expected to learn choreography to sing and dance to a designed show. Jazz Band is another extra-curricular ensemble which performs upbeat jazz music in a big band setting and performs in the spring.

Lehighton also offers courses at the high school that are classroom-based in order to support students’ musical growth and development. These classes are World Music, Songwriting, Voice Class, Adapted Music, Musical Theater, Music Theory 1 and 2, History of Modern Music, and Music Through Film. Each year, the high school chorus and marching band visits our fourth and fifth grade students in the elementary school during Music in Our Schools Month (MISOM) which occurs in the month of March. These upper-level ensembles perform for the younger students and also speak to how band and chorus have helped them discover their musical talents, cultivate their artistic passions, and forge lifelong connections. It is an important component of our program at Lehighton to foster the love of music learning in our young students and encourage them to benefit from the musical opportunities our district has to offer.
